Flies are not only a nuisance with the buzzing noise they make around the home but some species of flies pose a health risk of transmitting a wide range of diseases including salmonella, dysentery, tuberculosis, cholera and parasitic worms.
Flies get inside homes through open windows, cracks, small holes in screens, and gaps under doors. They could also come into the house through drains! Infestation happens quickly through fast breeding when flies have access to waste materials, garbage, rotten meat, and wastewater. The contamination happens when they land on food or other material depositing all the germs they carry.

House flies, for example, can spread diseases such as food poisoning and dysentery. Flies, including stable flies and mosquitoes (which are also classified as flies, or Diptera), can inflict painful bites while feeding on the blood of humans and other animals, and some species transmit disease.
The habits of filth flies favor the spread of bacteria and other disease-causing organisms. Filth flies often feed and lay eggs on garbage, manure and carrion before contaminating human foods and food preparation surfaces by landing on them. When feeding, house flies regurgitate their stomach contents onto food to liquefy it before ingesting it. They also may contaminate food and surfaces by defecating on them.
Research published in Science Reports shows that houseflies and blowflies carry several bacteria on their bodies that are harmful to humans. Much of it has to do with what the insects feast on — fecal matter. Blowflies and houseflies are the first organisms to arrive on carcasses, decaying organic matter and feces on which they feed, breed, and lay eggs.
The study notes that this can be a cause for concern because these flies tend to linger around humans and on household surfaces. Researchers analyzed DNA from the creatures to find that houseflies carry 351 types of bacteria. Some of the bacteria were linked to human infections and illnesses, such as stomach bugs.
But cluster flies, house flies and stable flies (among others) are known for spreading at least 200 known pathogens and parasites to humans; so the answer is yes – flies are dangerous! These flies frequent trash cans, decaying flesh, rotting food and manure. They pick up any pathogens
that are present in these areas and then can transfer them to wherever they land – whether it is the surfaces we touch or the food we eat. Some diseases known to be spread by flies include typhoid, cholera and dysentery, just to name a few. Having just a couple of flies in your home or business can seem like a minor problem, but when flies start breeding, more and more flies will appear very quickly, making what seemed like a small problem into a very large problem in no time.
